The
decision of demonetisation of Rs.1,000 & Rs.500 by the Government of India,
in order to fight corruption, black money and cross border terrorism issues and
its impact on Indian economy has become the talk of the town for the last few
days and rightly so. Some are airing their voice for the move and few are
against the move. Let the debate go on beyond the petty political agendas and
their flag bearers across the country.
But
what made me to scribble my thought in this blog is the observation of uncontrolled
frenzy and consequent ruckus which is occurring around amongst the people, in
spite of every measures taken by the authority, which meant to educate citizens
about do’s and don’ts of this particular situation. Probably, every possible
way has been ventured by the Government of India, be it electronic media,
digital media, print media and so on, to communicate to the citizens that there
is no need to get trepid about the situation, though the currencies (Rs.500
& Rs.1000) are getting cancelled but there are ample windows to clear the
air during this phasing out period if you are on the right side of the track.
However,
it is general ignorance of the commoners, who are getting steered by handful of
sly marketeers having their vested interests which making things worse. Common
people in urgent need of emergency services like medical, emergency supply etc.
are getting harassed and getting caught between a rock and a hard place. Here comes the role of the local authority,
to which we fall back upon for respite in these situations. Though, we
understood from news sources that the Central Government Authority beforehand sought
for local assistance, in anticipation of such situation but the happenings around
shows that ample measures to restrict these evil marketeers was not taken. The
aftermath of any major change needs strong administration backup to steady the
ship but till now it is not evident.
But,
we are ‘tolerant’ Indians, waiting keenly and looking up towards our
democratically elected representatives for guarding us against any incongruous
situation.
