Perilous Job Market of My City

As far as prospect of respectable job is concerned, Calcutta is seriously having a dearth of it. By respectable job, it may be interpreted as, jobs, which can earn you your bread, while you apply your level of calibre. On the other hand, employers often find themselves in a situation, where they find it hard to track down eligible and worthy candidate for their requirement.

It may sound paradoxical, but a detail assessment of the situation will reveal that, there are many reasons, like lesser number jobs with regard to eligible candidate or sometimes it is more a case of overestimation on one’s part about their propriety which leads to failure of finding each other. It is another case that the cream of the crop is running away, towards more lucrative carrier in other States, since those top notch employers are ambivalent to turn up to our State.  But this article though, is not about discussing these issues, since there are many wise men capable of discussing upon these issues more aptly and avidly.

This article is an attempt to get an insight about the grief of general masses who are in destitute owing to the dearth of job and how some pretentious employers are cunning them. These filthy employers practically overruling every parameter for human rights let alone labour laws of the land. Unfortunately, administrative vigilance is nil and it appears sporadically when any mass mishap occurs and there is hoopla in mass media reprimanding the administration. But then again, it goes for hibernation once everything sedates. Sadly, persistent vigilance and application of laws towards protection of employees, against deceitful employers is nowhere to be found.

It may be supposed that, this phenomenon not only hold true for West Bengal, but there are many places having similar issues. Yes, may be, but having the firsthand experience and having witnessed such issues around, I can only talk about Calcutta here. For instance, a few years back, I, myself happen to be associated with a Company based at New Alipore, Kolkata. I’ve seen candidates walking-in with eyes full of dreams of bright future and eventually leaving or rather compelled to leave with shattered dreams. Reasons are many, non-payment of agreed salary, and sometime no payment of salary over length of time, ludicrous job allocation, whimsical and impractical departmental changes (don’t get mislead by that!  All the departments are on paperboard!!!), to name a few. Once left, settlement is like chasing wild goose.  Many employees have resigned to their fate but few like us, who persuaded even after getting threats got their penny but after truncation, with some silly reasoning.  It is not that employees did not knock the doors of administration but nothing yielded.

Most importantly companies less known as this one is, one has to go by what he comes across their websites about their nature of business. There lies the trap! Until you are part of the system or a victim yourself, you will never know that what they proclaim are blatant lies.  On top it, finding that the nature of business is murky and questionable one, is grossly uncomfortable.  But without documentary evidence nothing can be done by an individual. Role of various Administrative authorities supposed to keep tab on any activities of organization becomes utterly important since they can get a catch hold of these maleficent business communities harming every aspect of the society and bringing disrepute to our state. Otherwise, days are not afar, when this smog will completely engulf our society.

Piyali Island – Your Weekend Jaunt

More often than not, whenever we contemplate about taking a break from routine city life, our mind starts wandering about destinations pretty common to all of us.   While discussing a jaunt on a fall winter weekend amongst friends, the onus was upon me to find out a place which is close by, beautiful yet not very commonly known to masses. Instantly, the name of Piyali Island popped up in my mind.   Earlier, somewhere I’ve heard of the place but never happened to be there.   However, I’ve started scouring in the internet as well as amongst people who might be aware about it. From the internet, I got desired information to be able to put up to my association. Most of the people I asked though told me about the picnic spot Piyali which is en route to Canning, 24 Parganas (S). But, since I knew that what I was looking for I didn’t pay any heed to it.   Four of friends, including me decided to take up the excursion on Sunday, 21 st January 2018 by local t...

A Memoir of Murshidabad –Bengal’s Bygone Historical Epoch

While planning for our Puja vacation, our mind started wandering. It was primarily because we have not made any significant peregrination for long enough and also because of the fact that deliberating on a tour itself always is an energizer for a thirsty soul willing to run away from the hustle and bustle of city dwelling. Time space was not enough for a long trip yet not very short one also.  We had got 5 days for our tour. After a lot of argumentation and deliberation between two of us, brothers, as to where to head for, we have decided to visit Murshidabad. The reason propelling our decision apart from its being a historical city, which we were contemplating to visit, we have had a nostalgic connection to this place. Our father spent his childhood days in Murshidabad. He used to narrate stories of the place and those narratives left some delightful impression of Murshidabad in our childhood days which we wanted to relieve. We boarded Bhagirathi Express from Sealdah on ...
