Hay Days

Professor Himanshu’s report for OXFAM India (India Inequality Report 2018) once again unfurled the truth what BJP Government is hopelessly trying to sweep under the carpet.  The scenario is neither new nor the creation of the present Government but the exponential rate at which it has soared makes this present Government responsible. As per this report, when this Government came to power, India’s top 10% was holding 52% of the country’s wealth, which has grown into 63% by end of 2012.  In the same period India’s bottom 50%, already at a low of 9% further dipped to 5.3%. The so-called ‘ACCHE-DIN’ seems to be elusive for the masses whereas only handful of people near to the epicenter of power enjoys the hay days. As per the report, validation of common belief that inequality is the by-product of economic growth cannot be substantiated as in the last decade Indian billionaires increased their wealth by 10 folds, whereas the national per capita income only grew twice.

“What is particularly worrying in India’s case is that economic inequality is being added to a society that is already fractured along the lines of caste, religion and gender," Himanshu said. “Apart from being a moral concern, reducing inequality is central to the functioning of India’s democracy," he said.

Unfortunately, our leaders instead of introspection and make amend in their so called pro people policies (if there is any!  At all) keep on bragging and boasting of their success. Indeed it is Success to throw public life in inferno and make them suffer incessantly.

Mithun Chakraborty – Bengal’s one & only universal DADA (Big Brother)

When the announcement for Shri Mithun Chakraborty’s news of being nominated for Dadasaheb  Phalke Award for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema made public, being a Bengali and an ardent fan of the legendary actor, my first reaction was that no one could have been a better flag bearer as a human being to bring back golden days of Bengali Cinema. As announced by I&B Broadcasting Ministry of India on 30 th September 2024, the award was scheduled to be presented on 70 th National Film Awards Ceremony on 8 th October 2024. In middle and lower middle class Bengali community, the word ‘DADA’ , means big brother is uttered with great respect. Mithunda is a person, who earned this respect across the strata of the society and age barrier by his sheer integrity, hard work and humbleness. Today, Mithunda, is not only a film actor, anchor etc, but we look upto him as a brand for every facet of life beyond barrier of merely film acting only. Already, he has earned his respect pan ...

India And Her Malicious Neighbours

Pakistan, as always, from its formative days has only had one point agenda, and that is to keep trying to disturb and disrupt our motherland. Despite being slapped time and again in their every malicious intention, they seem to be adamant that they will stop at nothing. All kind of atrocious activities, deception, deceit, falsehood, human right violation, patronising terrorist activity and eventually shameless denial of all proven offences seems to be in their social DNA. Day after day, they digging deep hole for their own country by trying to disturb our countries inner peace. Yet they do not have will to learn from history.   ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’ will be written in the history of mankind with a warning that there is no respite for the perpetrators involved in conspiracy against our motherland. Son & daughters of our soil will avenge them for sure. We have always believed and practised assimilation over destruction as our country’s strength. Unfortunately, Pakistan, ...

CAA-The Black Spot

Hit by protest against implementation of Citizens Amendment Bill (Citizens Amendment Act, now), West Bengal is writhing. Daily life has become immobile and the role of states’ administrative machineries has become questionable. Be it Rail & Road blockade, brainless destruction of public property or setting fire to trains & busses,    all sorts of vandalism are being showcased in different pockets of the state in the name of protest and instead of taking stern actions against those, state administration watching over as mere spectators is bound to raise eyebrows. If you interpret, after reading up to this point that I’m advocating in favour of this Act and thus voicing against protesters, it will be half truth. Problem with public pandemonium is that very easily sentiments take over from logic. Unfortunately, political intolerance in our country, across all party lines has become such that criticism is interpreted as opposition. CAA itself is deplorable since it direct...
