I was contemplating a ‘Republic Day’ write-up
and when started scribbling, while some facts gave me immense delight, some left
me with dread dreams.
We have celebrated our 65th Republic Day this 26th
January, but as a commoner, while I feel proud of our country being deliberated
as one of the super power in scientific brilliance, shown great augury in terms
of economic reforms or achieving commendable improvement in plantation and
farming, but my heart got infused with dismay, when I think, we have witnessed
the assassination of people like ‘Mr. Davolkar’, who fought the war against superstition
and black magic. Our head droops with shame when we see incidents like ‘Labhpur’,
when we see killing of female feticide in
this 21st century.
Distinctly, our country has been literally dichotomously
divided and these two parts have become apparently inextricable.
As far as ‘celebrating’ Republic Day is
concerned, I think it has become a festival or ‘another holiday’ for those who
can celebrate it. For glitterati of media and entertainment world it’s a ‘trend’
now. But for destitute people, its like any other day, where there is no empathy,
they have to fight and fight hard to earn their livelihood.
Unfortunately, for our country, ‘celebrating’
its 65th Republic Day, the last category is behemoth. But our
system, politicians earning their bred over their mandate, takes no heed of
their bawl.
When these people can ‘celebrate’ 26th
January, that will be our true ‘Republic Day.
JAI HIND.
