U-17 Soccer World Cup & Dreams Beyond

While commencement of under-17 soccer world cup is in the corner, Indian Football fraternity is all gearing up for the mega event. It is such a gala event not only for India but for all football playing nation across the globe that all attention related to the event are going to converge upon us, if not already happened, as to how we are going to deal with it.

It is such a pleasure to see India as organizer of events of such magnitude and All India Football Federation can certainly deserve accolades for that. Barring handful, football fans across the country was long rueing the fact that they have been deprived of firsthand experience of world class soccer.  It is not very long that with globalisation and media boom, people are being able to make feast of football bonanza across the globe by watching it on television or internet and-so-forth.  A country which craves its love for football since 1893, pre-independence era, and where victory of local soccer team over their English counterpart (Mohun Bagan for their feat of wining IFA Shield beating the East Yorkshire Regiment 2-1 in 1911) were equated with freedom struggle, had to wait this long  for event of highest level and become the part of it, tales about the sorry state of overall infrastructure  of football in our country.

Nevertheless, it is heartening that things have started to change and the motion of the change is in positive direction. With advent of this event, there is an evident buzz amongst people as they are getting excited with the prospect of forthcoming festivity associated with this event, mores so, because our team will also be participating. From economy to sociology, this event is going to have a deep lasting impact on our country. It is high time for authorities to provide necessary impetus to steer this wave towards improvement of the infrastructural facilities to draw more and more people to take up the game seriously. The more people gets involve with the game means the bigger market, hence sponsors will also feel interested. When sponsors start promoting, they’ll make sure that marketing of the game done globally so that there is a splurge in return. By this whole exercise, Indian Football is going to get benefited. More and more new blood will take football as profession and hence there won’t be any dearth of talent to lock horn with the best in the business.

Hope,  soon India will see organizing open age Soccer World Cup and not to mention lift  the trophy itself.

Mithun Chakraborty – Bengal’s one & only universal DADA (Big Brother)

When the announcement for Shri Mithun Chakraborty’s news of being nominated for Dadasaheb  Phalke Award for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema made public, being a Bengali and an ardent fan of the legendary actor, my first reaction was that no one could have been a better flag bearer as a human being to bring back golden days of Bengali Cinema. As announced by I&B Broadcasting Ministry of India on 30 th September 2024, the award was scheduled to be presented on 70 th National Film Awards Ceremony on 8 th October 2024. In middle and lower middle class Bengali community, the word ‘DADA’ , means big brother is uttered with great respect. Mithunda is a person, who earned this respect across the strata of the society and age barrier by his sheer integrity, hard work and humbleness. Today, Mithunda, is not only a film actor, anchor etc, but we look upto him as a brand for every facet of life beyond barrier of merely film acting only. Already, he has earned his respect pan ...

Piyali Island – Your Weekend Jaunt

More often than not, whenever we contemplate about taking a break from routine city life, our mind starts wandering about destinations pretty common to all of us.   While discussing a jaunt on a fall winter weekend amongst friends, the onus was upon me to find out a place which is close by, beautiful yet not very commonly known to masses. Instantly, the name of Piyali Island popped up in my mind.   Earlier, somewhere I’ve heard of the place but never happened to be there.   However, I’ve started scouring in the internet as well as amongst people who might be aware about it. From the internet, I got desired information to be able to put up to my association. Most of the people I asked though told me about the picnic spot Piyali which is en route to Canning, 24 Parganas (S). But, since I knew that what I was looking for I didn’t pay any heed to it.   Four of friends, including me decided to take up the excursion on Sunday, 21 st January 2018 by local t...

Ignoring Legacy - Bengal Trending

It seems that using quotes from yesteryears eminent literary and poets, and use it in distorted way have become a fashion these days in West Bengal. From Rabindranath to Jibanananda, quotes are being indiscriminately used modifying their original version, partly or fully and incorporating new phrasing to the will of the presenter, be it for the advertisement for renowned real estate company or by individuals. It is, thereby, more often than not, brings about meanings which have no distant connection of inner meaning with its original version.     We are living in an era, where reading of books & periodicals in an old fashioned way has become almost outdated and it has become and becoming more and more through Smartphone etc.   Old style local libraries have become oblivious. I doubt, people, who are unaware of originality of those prose and poems might consider these distorted versions as the original one, since the submitter of these versions merely acknowledge t...
