CAA-The Black Spot

Hit by protest against implementation of Citizens Amendment Bill (Citizens Amendment Act, now), West Bengal is writhing. Daily life has become immobile and the role of states’ administrative machineries has become questionable. Be it Rail & Road blockade, brainless destruction of public property or setting fire to trains & busses,    all sorts of vandalism are being showcased in different pockets of the state in the name of protest and instead of taking stern actions against those, state administration watching over as mere spectators is bound to raise eyebrows. If you interpret, after reading up to this point that I’m advocating in favour of this Act and thus voicing against protesters, it will be half truth. Problem with public pandemonium is that very easily sentiments take over from logic. Unfortunately, political intolerance in our country, across all party lines has become such that criticism is interpreted as opposition. CAA itself is deplorable since it direct...

Marketing – The Art of Hoodwinking

Civilization, undoubtedly brought about lots of meaningful changes for mankind, but also begot one demon as its flip-side which is called ‘MARKETING’. No matter how we glorify this term or activities related to it, the fact remains that it is nothing but the art of hoodwinking of the highest level. A ‘product’, ‘brand’ or ‘image’ can be built or ruined upon marketing and successful execution of the same can deceive even the most pragmatic person on earth.         Successful marketing can promote almost anything and everything irrespective of their quality and efficacy.   Umpteen numbers of examples can be cited where marketing promotion helped outdoing quality with propaganda, packaging and presentation. Might sound cliché but given a choice, most people prefers aerated drinks over coconut water. Similarly junk food preferred over homemade one. It is shear marketing, which beguiles people, especially in our part of the world to choose c...

Politically Apolitical

Politically apolitical! I’m sure that most individuals will ridicule the term if not downright reject the same. Why we always shy away from accepting bare facts and try to cover it up with pseudo satisfaction as if it was never present? Why we always like to keep truth behind our back and run for illusive objects?  I have never been an advocator against positive thinking instead always try to look at the sunny side of things. Having said that, putting your hands into fire and expecting it will not burn, if that is what is meant by positive thinking then please excuse me! According to me that is non-practical. Either you have put out the fire or refrain yourself from putting your hand into it. As a responsible citizen, it is very appalling to fathom out what is happening in our society and thereby my inner feeling tries to voice out through my writings. In one of my earlier blog also I’ve expressed my distress on how Bengal’s politics is getting increasingly polluted w...

Henry's Island - Getaway Next Door

We are living in an era when our over dependence on technology touching new heights every day.   In every facet of life, we fall back on our gadgets. Thus, acquiring information related to tour and travel is no exception.   Instead of exploring beyond regular and redundant, be it for visit to places of interests or for that matter just a weekend jaunt, we start scouring internet. Often, searches yields places very popular and beautiful, yet sometimes it can overlook beautiful places normally unexplored. This Holi (festival of color), it was an unpremeditated trip to Bakkhali, which ended up being at Henry’s Island, nearby Bakhkhali. Those, who are not acquainted with the name ‘Bakkhali’, it is a beach village in the southern fringe of West Bengal, State of India and the district being South 24 Parganas. Shortest distance from Kolkata to Bakkhali is 125 km ( Diamond Harbour Road {NH 12},   via   Sirakole – Usthi – Netra). If you take a detour v...

S.O.S - Reconcile with Mother Nature

The Khumbu Glacier in Nepal, pictured in 2009, is one of the Himalayan glaciers threatened by global warming (Photo: ICIMOD/ALEX TREADWAY HANDOUT, EPA-EFE)  With technological excellence, human race is scaling new heights and making life more comfortable. Advocators of technology always vocal about proving their point on how technology keep bringing revolutionary improvement in our livelihood for betterment, which is quite true, but on the flip side what they tend to envelop, willingly or unwillingly, is the fact that every day we are endangering ours own existence by way of marginalizing   natures balance. It is not about how a handful of technological freak advocates and conquers the battle of words, it is about billions of people or rather as we put it these days, “consumers” enslaving themselves by following propaganda orchestrated by those. Although mostly, but not all of these followers are having dearth of information about the hidden danger that are as...

Hay Days

Professor Himanshu’s report for OXFAM India (India Inequality Report 2018) once again unfurled the truth what BJP Government is hopelessly trying to sweep under the carpet.   The scenario is neither new nor the creation of the present Government but the exponential rate at which it has soared makes this present Government responsible. As per this report, when this Government came to power, India’s top 10% was holding 52% of the country’s wealth, which has grown into 63% by end of 2012.   In the same period India’s bottom 50%, already at a low of 9% further dipped to 5.3%. The so-called ‘ACCHE-DIN’ seems to be elusive for the masses whereas only handful of people near to the epicenter of power enjoys the hay days. As per the report, validation of common belief that inequality is the by-product of economic growth cannot be substantiated as in the last decade Indian billionaires increased their wealth by 10 folds, whereas the national per capita income only grew twice. ...
